Institutional support to awards, publications and both local and international events in design

PBD’s strategies also include actions such as the promotion and support of initiatives regarding awards in design in the most varied production sectors, as a means of disseminating and granting recognition to Brazilian design both at home and abroad.

The growing recognition of Brazil’s products through awards given to innovative products and the ones with good design solutions – whether developed in industries or at universities – is another way of expanding the synergy among the various stakeholders of institutions that are especially concerned with the issue of design and that promote it locally. Moreover, it is a form of marketing promotion of such products by their companies as well as of the work carried out by both students and professionals in the area of design.

PBD plays an active role in the awards programs in design in projects such as Design & Excellence Brazil. It provides companies with support during their participation in events such as the IF Design Award, in Hanover, Germany and in the Concurso Design de Caráter Social, which it promotes in conjunction with several institutions. In connection with the Fóruns de Competitividade das Cadeias Produtivas, several activities have been taking place, among them, the creation of design contests in, for example, the Setor de Transformados Plásticos (Plastics Transformed Materials Sector), which will soon launch the ABIPLAST (Brazilian Association of Plastics Industry) Design Contest. Meanwhile the sector is also helping the GT7 (a key work group) to create a design contest within the scope of the Mercosur trade agreement. The PBD provides institutional support to organizations that promote design contests, assisting them in drawing up the regulations, publicizing contests and in taking part - as judges - in the largest design contests in Brazil.
