    PROMÓVEL - PROGRAMA BRASILEIRO DE INCREMENTO À EXPORTAÇÃO DE MÓVEIS

    DESCRIPTION:

    This project aims to:

    1. Transform the existing export model of the Brazilian furniture industries into a model with greater added value, based on exclusive design;

    2. Raise the competitivity of Brazil’s furniture industry;

    3. Supply the Brazilian furniture industries with the capacity required for exporting to selected markets;   

    and

    4. Increase exports of Brazilian furniture.PLAYERS INVOLVED:

    Organizations involved: APEX (Brazil’s Agency for the Promotion of Exports), MDIC, MRE (Brazil’s Foreign Affairs Ministry), MMA (Brazil’s Ministry of Environmental Issues), ABIMÓVEL, SEBRAE, CNI, CNPq (The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), FINEP (Research & Project Financing, also known as The Brazilian Innovation Agency), SENAI/FETEP (São Bento do Sul’s Foundation for Learning, Technology and Research in Furniture) and SINDIMOVEIS (São Bento do Sul’s Trade Union of Furniture Industries).

    OPERATIONS:

    16 projects have been developed up until the present moment:

    2. Projeto de Sensibilização ISO 14.000 (Motivational [Awareness Raising] Project for ISO 14.000);

    3. Projeto de Implantação do Selo Verde (Project for Implementation of the ‘Green Seal’ [Earth Friendly Products]) ;

    4. Projeto de Normatização ABNT - CB-15 (Project for compliance to ABNT (Brazilian Association of Norms and Techniques) standards – CB-15);

    5. Projeto PBQP - Programa Brasileiro de Qualidade e Produtividade (Brazilian Program of Quality and Productivity);

    6. Projeto de Aquisição de "Know-How" no exterior (Project for the Acquisition of Know-how Abroad);

    7. Projeto de Missões Empresariais (Project for Training Groups of Entrepreneurs);

    8. Estudo de Mercados Internacionais (Study on International Markets);

    9. Projeto de Marketing (Marketing Project);

    10. Projeto de Formação de Consórcios (Project for the Formation of Consortiums);11. Projeto de Mostra de Móveis Brasileiros em Grandes Exposições Internacionais (Project regarding the Participation of the Brazilian Furniture Industries in Large International Exhibitions);

    • This project was granted approval by the APEX - Agência de Promoção das Exportações and is currently being implemented.

    • The project’s implementation took place from January 1999 through January 2002.

    1º CONGRESSO NACIONAL DE DESIGN E  PARA O SETOR MOVELEIRO (1st NATIONAL

    CONGRESS IN DESIGN FOR THE FURNITURE SECTOR)

    DESCRIPTION:

    Purposes: to encourage modernization efforts in the business community as well as a reduction in the so-called Custo Brasil (overhead costs imposed on the local industry, particularly with respect to shipping of goods by road); to disseminate the existing knowledge in the areas of production technology; to promote research in the sector and closer integration of organizations and teaching institutions with the productive sector, suppliers, technology centers and governmental agencies; to generate subsidies to aid in increasing the competitivity of the furniture sector, both locally and globally; to identify new trends, thus acting towards the consolidation of PBD and, especially, to create subsidies that aim to make the Marca Brasil a feasible achievement.

    Partnerships: MDIC/MOVERGS (Furniture Industries Association of the State of Rio Grande do Sul)/ SINDIMÓVEIS/ABIMÓVEL/FIERGS (Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Sul)/UCS (Caxias do Sul University)

    Parties involved: businessmen, professionals from the areas of product development, visual communication systems, and of development of human resources.

    PRÊMIO NACIONAL DO DESIGN DE MOBILIÁRIO DA ABIMÓVEL (ABIMÓVEL’s NATIONAL AWARD FOR FURNITURE DESIGN)

    DESCRIPTION:

    Purposes: to award the best products in terms of their quality in design in two different categories: those developed by professionals and by students, aiming to promote the interest of designers, students and professionals involved in the creation and production of furniture, adding value to the furniture through design.

    ABIMÓVEL’s FURNITURE DESIGN CONTEST

    PBD is involved in organizing the contest and drawing up its regulations, and it also participates in the judging. In addition, it provides institutional support to the event, aiming to stimulate a more widespread use of design in this sector;

    SALÃO DESIGN MOVELSUL (Professional Fair of the Furniture Sector)   (the word professional sounds strange here, as if the other fairs didn’t have a professional type of attitude)

    A PBD representative takes part in the juries in the 1st and 2nd phases of the contest, in all its versions, providing institutional support to the event;

    NÚCLEOS DE DESENVOLVIMENTO DE DESIGNNDD do SETOR MOVELEIRO (FURNITURE SECTOR’s NDDs)

    Implementation of 12 projects in 12 industrial hubs linked to furniture industries.

    DESCRIPTION:

    Purposes: to promote modernization efforts; to disseminate both knowledge and culture related to design within the scope of the major furniture industrial hubs.

    Partnerships: CNPq, local SEBRAE, ABIMÓVEL/APEX.

    Parties involved: companies from the furniture sector, especially the ones that are actively engaged in the PROMÓVEL.

    IMPLANTAÇÃO DO NÚCLEO DE PESQUISA E DESENVOLVIMENTO DO DESIGN TROPICAL (IMPLEMENTATION OF A RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT NUCLEUS LINKED TO THE STUDY OF THE DESIGN OF TROPICAL TRENDS)

    DESCRIPTION:

    Purposes: to disseminate not only the concept of design but also its use within the largest possible geographical area, for design to act as an alternative for the creation of jobs and the generation of income for the local peasant population, without putting the environment in jeopardy.

    Partnerships: SUFRAMA (Suframa is an investment promoter agency in the Manaus Duty Free Zone and in the Western states of the Amazon region responsible for the administration and tax incentives concession offered by the Federal Government)/FUCAPI (FOUNDATION CENTER OF ANALYSIS, RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION) /BASA (AMAZON REGION’s BANK)

    Parties involved: companies from the furniture industrial hub in the Amazon region and professionals from this field.

    PUBLISHING  OF A SURVEY ON HANDICRAFT DESIGN IN THE  AMAZON REGION

    DESCRIPTION:

    Purposes: to publicize and to promote modernization efforts in the business community as well asboth the knowledge and culture gained with respect to design developed within the scope of the furniture industrial hubs in the region.

    Partnerships: SUFRAMA/FUCAPI/MDIC

    Target Market: furniture sector businessmen, trade  unions, professionals from the field, governmental agencies, universities and final consumers.

     

    TEXTILE AND CLOTHING INDUSTRIES SECTOR

    SEMINÁRIOS DE CONSCIENTIZAÇÃO NO PÓLO TÊXTIL E CONFECÇÕES DE DIVINÓPOLIS E GOIÂNIA (MOTIVATIONAL SEMINARS TARGETING THE TEXTILE AND CLOTHING INDUSTRIES HUB IN THE TOWNS OF DIVINÓPOLIS AND GOIÂNIA – STATE OF MINAS GERAIS)

    DESCRIPTION:

    Purposes: to disseminate a more widespread use of design in the textile and clothing manufacturing industrial hubs through lectures delivered by national experts; to present current trends through fashion shows as well as research & development in the field of design and prospects of introducing innovations; to develop a more accurate awareness amongst businessmen regarding the gains in competitivity and productivity brought by design; to set up partnership agreements and the interface between organizations that supply design services and those that have a demand for design.

    Partnerships: MDIC /SEBRAE/Brasil Empreendedor (Entrepreneurialism in Brazil) BB (Brazil’s National Public Bank)/FINEP

    Parties involved: micro, small and medium-sized industries from the clothes manufacturing industrial hub.

    DEFINITION OF BRAZILIAN BODY MEASUREMENTS

    Purposes: to make both measurements and virtual mannequins available to companies from the textile and clothing manufacturer sector as well as to companies that produce mannequins that seek to produce certified mannequins according to the level of geographical coverage of the market. Additionally, the project aims to provide greater gains in conformity in terms of pattern making. The basic patterns of the Brazilian body should be standardized and made official, therefore contributing to a reduction in waste and costs related to conformity/product project.

    Parties involved: companies from the textile and clothes manufacturing sectors and manufacturers of mannequins.
