The “Mateus, Marcos, Lucas e João” graphic project is a contemporary take that brings the medieval illuminated Bible to the 21st century. Taken out of a box, we find the book’s aluminum cover is adorned by fake jewels glued on by hand. Inside, it is filled with contemporary versions of medieval historiated initials. Each letter, much like its medieval predecessors, carries a visual narrative. However, instead of biblical scenes, the letters depict scenes from our everyday life such as traffic, fast food, guns and cell phones. An ironic, albeit sharp, portrait of the times in which we live.
